Ok, so I've really gone and done it now.
My laptop's AVG antivirus subscription was due to expire tomorrow. I have MacAfee on my desktop and am happy with it so decided to wswitch the laptop to it as well.
Somehow during the uninstallation of AVG and attempt to install MacAfee, my wireless connection has disappeared. When I go to the wireless connection settings and click view wireless networks in range, it does nothing.
Now, let me also say that my Jaws on the laptop is also screwed up so I can't use the jaws cursor. I keep getting a message to install video intercept but when I try to do so, I get an internal error message.
I've tried a system restore but that hasn't helped either situation.
WTF is wrong with my little blue baby? lol
I think at this point, I'm probably best off taking it in somewhere to have it looked at by someone who knows more about computers than I do but am not sure if it wouldn't be cheaper just to buy a new netbook. My audio jack is broken as well so I can only use the computer's speakers. yuck.
Anybody have any suggestions of things I could try? I'd at least like to get the wireless connection working again.
McDafee doesnt go away easy. You'll need to uninstall it completely and the AVG as well. If they don't go easy you have to go to the website and get the uninstallers, but if your Jaws is not working well that will be difficult.
If you have another computer and can load the programs on a flash drive you could probably do it.
System restore doesn't work in your case because it won't remove these types of programs.
You might can get it repaired for about $50 at Office Depot or an office store that has a tec department, so that is an option. If you have sighted help have them remove the programs.
McCafee is not accessible not vary anyhow, so if you need something free until you get the AVG back use Microsoft's program.
After you get these completely removed you'll be able to fix the wireless, because McCafee is blocking it until you say it is safe, and you probably can't see that with the Jaws not working well.
Get it fixed, or if you just want new go shopping, but I believe you can do it for around 50 including the audio jack.
Good luck.
I think something must have gone wrong with the AVG uninstall because MacAfee isn't installed yet.
The network connection got killed before the install could finish.
I was looking around in the network settings and saw something called the AVG network filter driver so I suspect that is the problem. I think I'll go to their site on this computer and try to download something to my flash drive.
Thanks for the suggestion.
start menu, settings submenu, network connections, in which select wireless connection and go to it's properties. uncheck unwanted connections. check internet protocol tcp/IP. After doing that, refresh networks and you may find your wireless. click connect and do the rest.
This is my suggestion.
Make sure your wireless mode is turned on. as per the dell, f2 toggles turning it on and off. I dono about other laptops.
Raaj.
I'll give that a shot. Thanks.
Woohoo! It worked! I'm typing on it as we speak!
Thanks, so much, Raaj! You're the hero of the day.
Now I guess I'd better go install some antivirus software. Wish me luck. lol
Again, thanks allot!
Smooth stuff. Lol
